In this paper, we are proposing an innovative framework providing a scalable and flexible architecture that enables efficient handling of high-reporting rate data streams from diverse equipment towards pre-processing, storage, visualization and thirdparty applications integration using the FIWARE technology.
Emerging power systems with high share of decentralized, volatile, random, uncontrollable and intermittent RES-based generation have lower inertia due to the static converters mediated energy transfer. In this situation, the energy transfer is affected by voltage and frequency deviation, voltage waveform distortion and three-phase voltage unbalance and other power quality problems for microgrids. Therefore, to achieve an optimal energy control, the needs is for real time information on both use- and generation power profiles. The impact of high variability of prosumers’ power profiles can be anticipated from the microgrids’ control, especially in off-grid operation.

This article presents a case study of a (next-generation) student residence building (SRB), that could integrate generation from photovoltaic (PV) panels with flexibility in operation given by a battery energy storage system (BESS). In this paper, the design and implementation of the proposed generation system, including the selection of the PV technology and the battery storage system, both based on high-reporting rate measurement information is discussed.
An advanced metering infrastructure built upon smarts meters, data management system, control devices and communication network enables a bidirectional communication between the users and the energy utility. The advantages of such a modern smart metering system leveraged on improved grid control and monitoring, better power quality, energy balancing based on forecasting, knowledge extraction etc. In this paper we are proposing an innovative framework for high-reporting rate measurements for pre-processing, storage, visualization and third-party applications integration using the FIWARE technology. - I2MTC 2023
